Labor Day Weekend has come and gone; signaling the end to another great summer on Ann Lake. Over these last weeks, we’ve seen many signs that folks are getting ready for winter. Boats have been heading toward the boat launch to be taken out and stored for the winter. Docks are slowly disappearing along the shores.
But as we remove those docks, we’d like to ask everyone to keep there eyes out for a new invasive plant that was highlighted in the Winter 2014 Riparian and the MLS&A August Newsletter as well as discussed in the Invasive Species Committee reports: STARRY STONEWORT. Over the previous 2 years, the Invasive Species Committee conducted samplings of aquatic weeds looking for this and other invasive plants. Although none have been found in Ann Lake, it is important that residents assist the Committee and keep vigilant, especially when you take out the dock. The “stars” of Starry Stonewort appear later in the season. For more information, check out the links under the Invasive Species Committee Page.
For those who will be remaining on Ann Lake for the winter, it looks like it will be another snowy one. Meteorologists are predicting a once-in-a-lifetime kind of snowy winter.
