Welcome to Ann Lake!
Ann Lake is a 530 acre lake located at the bottom of the Leelanau Peninsula in Benzie County, Michigan. Michigan contains 63 major river watersheds, as defined by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) Water Resources Division. Three of these are located within Benzie County: the Platte River Watershed, the Betsie River Watershed and the Herring Lakes Watershed. Ann Lake is part of the Platte River Watershed.
Ann Lake has a stable population of game fish to include large and small mouth bass, perch, crappies, and lots of blue gills. Recent samplings of weeds show that it contains a healthy diversity of weed populations with NO invasive plants present. There has been at least one pair of nesting loons on the lake for over a decade. But how long will Ann Lake remain the beautiful setting it is?
The goal of the Riparian Best Practices section is to help and advice riparian land owners on best practices they can use to keep Ann Lake a clear and healthy lake. It will introduce you to the problems, the causes, and the tools at your disposal to protect the lake’s water quality.
The goal of the Renters Information section is to provide specific information to be provided to your renters.
Recently, the Platte River Watershed Protection Plan was approved. The Platte River Watershed Protection Plan is a comprehensive document that coordinates the Platte Lake Improvement Association’s ongoing efforts to protect water quality with those of other watershed‐wide stakeholder groups to achieve designated and desired goals. These goals are addressed in a consolidated task implementation chart designed to achieve and maintain the high water quality. It is important to note that this document is a planning framework that prescribes tasks designed to achieve watershed goals, however it is not regulatory in nature. The plan itself and the Steering Committee are non‐political entities and neither have regulatory powers.
